Prof. Dr. Patrice D. Cani

Prof. Dr. Patrice D. Cani is senior researcher from FRS-FNRS, Université Catholique de Louvain, WELBIO, Brussels, Belgium.

He published the discovery of the concept of metabolic endotoxemia, he also discovered the beneficial role of the bacteria Akkermansia muciniphila on obesity and cardiometabolic risk.

His main research interests are the investigation of interactions between the gut microbiota, the host, the endocannabinoid system and related bioactive lipids and the innate immune system in the context of obesity, diabetes, cardiometabolic disorders and inflammation.

He is author/co-author of more than 200 scientific research publications.
