The main objective of my research is the physiological role of dietary fat, both from a qualitative and quantitative point of view, and in relation to the other macronutrients, in the control of body composition through its influence on lipid and energy metabolism, taste perception, feeding behavior and brain neuroinflammation. A particular attention is dedicated to the possible role of dietary fatty acids in different dietary forms, in influencing the biosynthesis and physiological activities of eicosanoids and bioactive lipids through modulation of nuclear receptors. The studies are carried out in different experimental models and in humans in physiological conditions and in conditions of body composition imbalance (visceral obesity, dyslipidaemia, cachexia, hormonal imbalances, genetic metabolic diseases).
