Dr. Gian Luigi RUSSO. Senior Research Scientist at the Institute of Food Sciences, National Research Council.

Doctor in Biological Sciences, University of Naples “Federico II” (1986). Doctorate in Biochemistry (1993). Post-doctoral fellow at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (NY, USA; 1991-93).

The current research interest of my laboratory is to understand how several non-nutritional components present in the regular diet, or molecules derived from food transformation, exert, at molecular level, a protective effect towards degenerative pathologies, including cancer. Our goal is to discriminate between preventive and therapeutic mechanisms using adequate pre-clinical models.
